On 28 May Fr. Dick McHugh left for Ireland/USA where he will conduct a series of workshops on NLP. He will be back in India by the end of September this year. Fr. Konrad Joseph Noronha of the Bombay province who has been assigned to Sadhana will go for his training at Baltimore, USA this August.
Fr. Emmanuel Arockiam, recently back from the US after his Ph. D. studies in counseling and currently assigned to LIBA, Chennai has been helping us with conducting Group therapy for the Midi Sadhana groups and teaching courses to our Formative Psychology and Formative Guidance students. This is indeed a welcome relief for us.
We had a good number of visiting staff helping us with our courses, and all of them deeply appreciated by the students and participants: Fr. Jose Parappulli SDB (Group Therapy: Theory & Practice), Fr. Subhash Anand (Indian Worldview), Dr. Ivan Netto (Psychopathology), Sr. Shalini Mulackal (Theological Anthropology), Fr. Ajoy Fernandez, SDB. (Cognitive Therapy), Mr. Mario Mascarenhas (Vipassana), Fr. Philip Terrasa (Drawing from the Depths: Journal Retreat), and Fr. Tony J. D’ Souza, SJ (Brief Therapy).

Formative Psychology: The present batch of Formative Psychology students will complete their two year programme by the end of June 2008. The staff members are indeed happy that we have a committed and well-motivated
group. The new batch will begin their programme in September 2008. Those who would like to join this two-year course will have to attend a Midi/Mini Sadhana course or Personal Growth Group as a prerequisite. Since we will not be offering the usual January-March Midi Sadhana course in 2008, those seeking admission to the two year course please make sure that you avail yourself the opportunity to meet the prerequisite this year itself.
The staff here have been discussing and evaluating our two year course. There is a strong feeling that we should rethink our policy on the minimum required age. Though we have always held that preference would be for those in the 40 plus age group, we were also accepting those below 40. However, going by our experience of working with participants of both the long and short courses, we are more and more of the view that participants who are 40 plus in age benefit the maximum from our courses because of the experiences they bring.

| Formative Guidance |
| |
| During this summer vacation we had the second module of Formative Guidance with 10 of the original 16 who attended the first module last summer. While four of those who attended the first module dropped out because of various reasons, two of them have opted to join the regular two year program (Formative Psychology).

The Relevance of Mysticism Today (Oct 15 – 23)
This course explores mysticism from a multi-faith perspective, focusing on Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, and Sufi mystical traditions. Mysticism has a vital role to play in healing today’s religious strife and division. Recognizing that mystical insight and consciousness must be experienced, the course is experiential, emphasizing five areas. These five areas are: universal truths common to the mystical journey in different spiritual traditions; mysticism and science, and parallels between them; silent contemplation and experiential practices to awaken and deepen mystical consciousness; the Divine Feminine, and the contemporary renaissance of feminine spiritual consciousness across the globe and; mysticism in service to the world. The course will also explore the stages of the mystical journey, including: awakening, purification, illumination, the mystic death or ‘Dark Night of the Soul’, union, and serving the Divine. (Facilitator: Dr. Will Keepin)

| Personal Growth Group for 55 plus |
| |
Respecting the occasional request for having some course specifically for those in the 55 – 70 age group we had announced a personal growth program for the 55plus (April 13 – 23) this year. However we had to cancel the course since very few had confirmed their participation.

| Requesting feedback from Sadhanites |
| |
|
Some of those who have attended Sadhana courses have been asking us if we would be offering renewal programs for them. We would welcome feedback and suggestions from former Sadhanites on this: What could be some relevant components of such a renewal program? What kind of inputs would be useful? Any feedback from you would be deeply appreciated.
