Admission
Process & Criteria
Enrollment
in the ICP programme is limited. Students are chosen
on the basis of formal prerequisites, personal maturity,
and aptitude for counselling. Student membership is
distributed equally among men and women. Addressing
the needs of some students and the requests of some
major superiors, we have organized the course into
three levels. The Basic level consists of the first
six months where the emphasis is on personal growth
and the basic knowledge, skills and attitudes involved
in counselling. The Intermediate level builds on the
basic and imparts further training in skills. The
second year makes up the Advanced phase consisting
of skills training, supervised experience and completing
the integration paper which the students defend at
the end of the second year. Admission to the second
year requires an undertaking that the student will
have the whole year available to complete the programme.
A participant may opt to do only the Basic or both
the Basic and Intermediate levels. They will be awarded
certificate of attendance by the Institute. However,
preference is given to those opting for the full two
year programme. Mid-course admissions are not granted
Although students are admitted for the two year programme,
the Institute confirms their continuation in the course
from one phase to the next based on their ability
to profit from the learning and growth opportunities
provided by the Institute.
Prerequisites
1.
A bachelors degree, preferably in a social science,
or in philosophy with papers in psychology.
2. Those who do not have such a degree will have to
complete remedial courses in psychology as required
by the Institute. Applicants are evaluated more in
terms of their overall readiness to enter into a counselling
relationship as a helper and to take advantage of
the learning opportunities of the program and less
in terms of specific course preparation.
3.
Attendance at a Sadhana course (Midi, Mini or Personal
Growth Group) in recent years. This gives the staff
a chance to evaluate the suitability of the applicants
for professional training based on their capacity
for gaining awareness and insight into themselves
and others; a high degree of motivation for learning
and growing; and the intellectual ability necessary
for coping with the rigours of the training and self-directed
learning envisaged by the Sadhana programme. This
requirement also gives prospective applicants the
opportunity to evaluate their professional goals and
personal gifts against the objectives and atmosphere
of the Institute.
4. Preferred age of participants is 30s and 40s and
the upper age limit is 50.
5.
Since the medium of instruction and communication
is English, a high proficiency in written and spoken
English is necessary.
Application
Procedure
1.
The following need to be submitted as the first step
in the admission process.
a) Completed application form.
b) Confidential recommendations of Major Superior/Bishop
and two persons who know the applicant well in academic
and community/work settings. This is not a formality
but a help to the admissions committee to evaluate
the applicant's suitability for the course.
c) Photocopies of certificates of studies after leaving
school.
d) Report of a recent medical examination
e) A two-page, handwritten personal autobiography
f) Two recent passport size photographs
2. Those applicants who have not already attended
a pre-requisite course at Sadhana will be invited
to attend one at the next available opportunity.
3. Applicants are informed of their selection to the
course only after the completion of all the above
requirements.
4. Since the maximum number of participants we accept
for the ICP course is limited, we are not always able
to accept all eligible applicants in a given year.
It is important, therefore, to plan your study and
apply early. Selection process is often completed
several months before the commencement of classes.
