Special
Features of ICP
An
Interdisciplinary Approach: The
ICP course is an innovative programme that is inter-disciplinary
in perspective and approach as it continually seeks
to integrate psychology and spirituality, experiential
learning and theoretical understanding.
Personal
Formation:
While strong emphasis is placed on professionalism
in the acquisition of knowledge and skills, personal
formation of the counsellor trainee takes precedence.
Training therefore is a personalized one where the
staff offers personal guidance to each student throughout
the period of ICP training. Enrollment is therefore
limited to a small group of no more than 12 persons.
Community
Living: Community living and interaction is an
essential part of the ICP programme providing intensity
and realism to personal growth experiences, offering
an atmosphere that is supportive and non-competitive
yet challenging and growth-promoting.
Process
Integration: Care
is taken to help students to integrate their learning
with life and work, through the discovery of the interconnectedness
of various courses, the reflection on the impact of
the courses on them, and the articulation of a synthesis
and integration of these courses and experiences.
Ontological hermeneutics has provided a framework
for achieving this goal.
Supervised
Practicum: Vital to the program is supervised
practical work which brings theory and training to
life in tangible ways. The supervised practicum is
in training situations that have relevance to the
student's future work and under supervisors approved
by the institute.
